Days events

Category: News, Playoodles @ 5:00 am

After waking up roughly 6 or 7 times in the space of an hour, I got up and found that there was a cruise & LAN suggested for today. I agreed, and off we went to Beechworth, but not without some dramas beforehand. After leaving the IGA carpark in Jindera and making a left, I hit some gravel and got 4 wheel drift through it, but thanks to the FTO’s handling, came out at a slightly wrong, but okay angle in my lane. Anyway, my friend following behind wasn’t so lucky, and after skidding through the gravel, his front right tyre re-gained grip, and couldn’t handle the pressure of the entire car on its singular wheel. It then popped, and came inwards on the rim, causing him to lose control of the front immediately.

Then, as his car still had the rear wheels in the incredibly slick gravel, started to fishtail at about 30km/h, and because of the front right being gone, was basically impossible to correct back into a straight line. After fishtailing right-left-right and onto a gutter and back left again, the car span to a halt facing the gravel on the corner, about 50 metres down the road. I watched this from my rear-view mirror and immediately pulled a u-turn. After checking he was okay, we worked on the front right tyre and got it changed with the help of a nice guy who lived right outside where he spun.

This however was not before an what can only be called irate and irrational old man came out with his dog and started completely abusing the hell out of us and saying we were pushing it. I went through the corner at around 40km/h and made it fine with a bit of correction of the 4 wheel drift. In comparison my mate went through it at around 20-30km/h and it absolutely caned the hell out of that tyre. This old guy wouldn’t let up though, he was yelling at the top of his voice and calling us ‘twats’ for pushing it through the corner. The old guy had no idea what had really happened and had absolutely gone off the deep end about the whole thing, probably thinking that as P platers we were obviously at fault. He also said he had called the Police, and as such I was scared if we left after changing the tyre we’d be ‘leaving the scene of an accident’ but after some corrections its only if two vehicles are involved.

Anyway, after informing the local guy who helped us change the tyre of exactly where my mate lived (only around 400 metres down the same road) we decided to take his car back on the spare and he would ride with me in the FTO. Anyway after all that we picked up a friend of mine and headed out to Beechworth, with the following vehicles:

  • Me: FTO
  • Rhys: Kawasaki ZZR
  • Jake: Nissan Pulsar ET Turbo
  • ‘Roger’: Holden VS Commodore

After grabbing a drink in a nice little cafe in Beechworth we headed back to Albury-Wodonga, and after visiting the Burning Stump (which was quite ironic as a bushfire started as we were driving back along some ranges near the stump, which had just closed its doors to food) we headed to the KFC & Hungry Jacks combined carpark for dinner. After a quick yet crappy meal (for me anyway) we headed up to my friends place where we went swimming again, like the previous night. After swimming for around 2-3 hours, we went to Rebels Pizza on the highway and grabbed a snack, then headed back for more swimming. After another couple of hours (it being around 4am at the time) we headed home to our various locations, after a quick check if we could see anything interesting fire wise, which we couldn’t.

As I dropped my mate off back at his house really strange misting rain started to fall, and has been since I’ve been home, writing this up. I just hope it continues. A good day however. :)

Ta for now.

Quick edit, here’s the front right rim & tyre after we got it off.

Humidity, argh

Category: News, Playoodles @ 12:25 am

Its been 35*+ and 50% humidity for the last 5 or so days, and its killing me. I hate heat and humidity, so its not been the best time. I went to a party last night, and after being in the pool for about an hour, I realised I really want to get into swimming again. Gets you fit and toned, and its possibly the best place around if you live in Australia, to be during summer.

The problem is I don’t like public pools, and my friends pool which I’ve been allowed to use (very generously) is small and I can’t really do laps in it. Damn annoying. Oh well, I’ll work something out. I hope.

Id expect my listening list is going to be very varied in the next few weeks, as I’ve taken to just listening to my entire music folder, not just one singular artist or album. I’ve also got a ton of new bands that I hadn’t heard of before. A lot of which I’m liking, surprisingly.

In other news I’ve started making a short series of wallpapers with a simple cartoon animal feel. You can check them out at my deviantART account. links on the left there.

Bulletproof? No.

Category: Opinionoodles @ 6:58 pm

After seeing yet another knee-jerk reaction to P plater deaths upon the roads of Aus, I’ve decided to finally rant my ass off in regards to this utter bullshit. I hear the words ‘bulletproof’ and ‘invincible’ used nearly every report in regards to the attitude of P platers whilst driving. As an ex Red P plater myself, I can tell you that this is a downright lie, and misleading. We didn’t think we were bulletproof, I sure never did.

P platers simply are not equipped with the proper skills, training, and constantly changing road rules and conditions don’t make things any easier. There is not one set standard of road rules which can be applied to all of Aus, and this is highlighted the most easily by a New South P Plater simply driving to Melbourne and then encountering hook-turns in the CBD. If you didn’t know about them before you went, what would you do?

L platers also need an absolute minimum of 120 hours, in both day AND night conditions. Along with that, a defensive driving course and a brief mechanical course to show them how to properly use a car and its functions would save more lives than incurring 1 point licenses and attempting to ban ‘distractions’ within the car. Banning the use of Bluetooth and hands-free kits for a generation that is more reliant on their mobiles than ever before is absolute idiocy, and I cannot see the advantage of doing so. Also, many car headunits allow the use of Bluetooth with the phone now so how exactly are the police to enforce this?

As for the issue of speeding, the standard imposed speed limits could be too fast for certain conditions, yet there is a belief that these limits have been imposed so as to allow you to do that speed through any circumstances. What L platers should be taught is that you should drive to the conditions, not the limits. A complete deserted highway on stilts which is perfectly straight at 1pm in the afternoon, would that require a 100km/h limit ALL the time? No. In the same way that an extremely busy, narrow Melbourne street that has a limit of 60km/h should probably be driven on at about half that to avoid collisions and possible pedestrians.

It comes down to this:

  • Education
  • Skill
  • Conditions

If these three factors are not addressed and systems in place for each, then the road toll will not be curbed. Its very simple. I wonder if people also consider that with population increase, that the number of P platers thus increases, and therefore the number of crashes is also to increase.

Enough of this utter stupidity. There are more crashes caused by older full licence drivers than P platers.

Conversation: underrated

Category: Personal, Playoodles @ 7:21 pm

Went for a trip to Beechworth today, just to drive the FTO and use the new headunit. Was a fun trip, had a friend come along in the FTO as I didn’t want to go alone and I didn’t want it to be a cruise either. Turned out well, we drove over 2 hours to get a Praline asparagus stick, and 2 packs of gummy bears. Worthwhile. (Sorry environment :( )

On the way back we accidentally met up with Rhys on his Kawasaki ZZR, and then went for a couple cruises out to the Hume Weir, and then back into town. It was a really fun day, and the conversation in the car on the way to and from Beechworth was really good. Probably the best I’ve ever had.

Should do it again next weekend. haha.

These blogs are making me thirsty.

Category: News, Playoodles @ 7:33 pm

Bonus points for anyone who guesses the reference in this subject. I’ve been reading plenty of blogs lately. Got me interested enough to post my own entry today, haha.

I went into town today, not because I had something to do, but because I wanted to drive the FTO again. I grabbed some subway, heard about some new years eve shenanigans from a friend who works there, and headed off down to Retravision to try to find a new TV. I’ve been looking around for an older flatscreen CRT TV for mum for a while now, with little success.

I don’t want an LCD or a Plasma as both are flawed technologies, and SED’s / Laser TV’s are a ways off. I couldn’t find SQUAT in either store however, with Harvey Norman wanting 2 and a half grand for a big CRT. Yeah, what a good price that is.

I’m also looking around for a 380 VR-X, also for mum. Shes been really inspired by the FTO and wants something sporty for a new car, after the series of SUV’s she previously had, such as the Honda CR-V and the Mitsubishi Outlander. At the moment, I think we’ll be going a Platinum, which you can find on Mitsubishi’s website here.

Headunit gets installed into the FTO tomorrow, and during that time I’m going to go see Happy Feet. Should be a fun way of passing a couple hours whilst the unit gets installed.

Hello 2007.

Category: News, Playoodles @ 10:23 pm

Happy new year all.

Ive just been on a holiday from…. a holiday. I sound like George from Seinfeld. I got back last Saturday however I then immediately Lanned overnight with the largest group of Lanners I’ve seen at a randomlan. Pity DOTA took over the event halfway through and at that point I left.

As for the holiday, well we headed up on boxing day, and took my Dads 300E old Mercedes-Benz, which was fine by me, saved me a ton of fuel. However, Mercedes-Benz’ of that year have the worst seats imaginable, with me getting an incredibly bad backache halfway down. I just don’t understand how they could be that bad, they genuinely hurt to sit in after a while.

Once we got down there, we were put into a shoddy-ass looking apartment in a run down area, and we were really unimpressed with this, as it was NOT the place we had viewed on the site where we booked our accommodation, and also, it had one bedroom with a simple kitchen, and no good parking. Anyway, after some simple complaints pointed out to the manager of the place, we got moved to another room which had 2 bedrooms, but wasn’t ready for our stay, and thus unsuitable, again. Then, we finally got moved to our final destination, a simple 2 bedroom townhouse with garage, laundry, as well as all other luxury features, including full size fridge, flastscreen TV, DVD player, stereo system, and our own courtyard. It was basically a small flat, and it was great, considering we got it at 120 a night, and it would be about 300 a night anytime else. It was excellent from then on.

We went to the Cricket at the MCG the next day, and saw Symonds and Hayden make their 2 150’s. An incredibly achievement for Symonds, who’s previous best score was less than half his new one. A real congratulations should go to him. We had good seats in the MCG as we’re members, but damn was it cold. It was about 14 degrees or something, and the wind chilled you right to the bone. Somehow however, I managed to get severely sunburnt whilst wearing a full hooded jacket done up to the max, with sunglasses, in undercover shade. I will never understand my skin, haha.

After the cricket, the next two days were spent simply wandering around Melbourne looking at shops, and shopping. It was the first day that i got my headunit, which is actually going into the car this Friday, in which time I’m also hoping to go see Happy Feet. who DOESN’T like tap-dancing penguin musicals.
I’m loving the FTO as well, with its crazy handling and awesome looks. Handling got proven the other night at taking a 45* angle at double the limit. This is the headunit:

Its got a USB connector on the right of it there,so I don’t actually need to burn CD’s, I simply transfer whatever I want on the USB stick, stick it into the connector and off I go. This also means that I don’t have any chance of ’skippage’ like with CD’s, even though I wouldn’t have gotten it with this model. Should be excellent, matches the interior light colour scheme as well.
I’ve been listening to Tenacious D’s latest album, and there’s about 2 tracks on it I like. Two. Of the 15. Its a real disappointment in comparison to their first album. While I’m here I may as well post my Christmas haul.
This is the gist of it:

  • JVC Headunit
  • Installation of said unit
  • Camping chair
  • Joke book
  • Melways
  • Absolut Vodka Madarin
  • Parking timer keyring
  • 1gb USB stick to accompany the headunit
  • All types bottle opener
  • strange sticky stuff that holds your items put on it down whilst you’re driving

I’m kinda surprised actually, this is quite down on previous years, however I do have a new sportscar, so I can’t complain too much. :P

Bassbyte.com has been getting quite a bit of traffic lately too, with at least 2000 hits a day on average. I think I’ll actually put meta tags into the index and get some more traffic for it. I can currently take between 15 and 20-fold the traffic I am now without a problem. Id like to get it up to around 50,000 hits a day, roughly. This bandwidth I have has to go somewhere, right?

Well, I can’t think of anything else to write about, so ttfn. :)

Oh, yes I can. Go grab DJ Vero’s track on BassByte, I’ve been listening to it today, and its awesome. An excellent mix. Ta!
