So, an update.

Category: FTO, News, Play, Workoodles @ 2:03 pm

Another time when I’ve neglected the blog. Oh well better late than never.

FTO is going ok, new front bar fitted and full respray, the repairers completely botched a lot of things however. Still, after all that it looks like this: (Opens in a new window)

So, at least it looks good. New tyres and full service coming up soon.

Moved into a new place as well. Townhouse in the middle of Albury. Great location, huge garage and great rent for the the features. Really happy. Got all new furniture for there as well. New links for the blog too, such as Flickr and Youtube.

Works going good, found that I’ve pulled a heck of a lot of calls over the last 90 days, more than anyone else by at least a hundred, and my logging of jobs is at 96%, which is just slightly above exactly what the superiors have asked of me. Happy about that actually, really happy.

Future plans or goals at the moment are working towards a permanent position at work, and if that becomes a reality, then I’m working towards a CV8 Monaro. Best all-round combination of power, comfort, and functionality.

TopGear Live coming up as well, already booked tickets to train, plane and the show. Going with about another 6 or so people which should be awesome. I don’t know how much longer Clarkson is going to keep on with TG Live so I decided I definately needed to see him before he retires, whenever that may be.

I’m sure I’ll think of more to add as I continue updating the blagmatron.

I always update this thing right guys?

Category: FTO, News, Personal, Play, Workoodles @ 10:46 pm

Yeah whatever. Been a while since I updated this, but after some coaching and prodding I decided I would. Ive had this thing for a long time now and Im not going to let it die.

For a start, I may as well start with the most interesting news which is that I crashed the FTO up at Falls Creek on Good Friday. I was taking a left hand bend which fell away fairly fast, and the tail let go. The FTO is a 60/40 front and rear weight distribution so when I took the corner it just had nothing to hold it down nor did it have any grip. I went into the guardrail at about a 30 degree angle, and by the time it hit I had already corrected it. the tail whipped back and tapped it as well, and I pulled it up about 20 metres down the road. I did get pics with my phone, here they are:

But this actually comes as a blessing in disguise, the insurance excess is $1200, 600 for driver age, 600 standard excess. Add to that I’m throwing on another 800 to have the entire car resprayed, the spoiler removed, all stickers removed, instead of just the left side. I got a quote from Jacob Body & Paint for $1450 to paint the parts I wanted, not withought removing the spoiler or even doing the entire car. Add to that Im sourcing my own front bar (aftermarket) and its going to only cost me $150 to have it put on. so all up, $2150 for a full respray, new front bar, spoiler removed from the boot and it all welded over the holes. This is the veilside front bar:

I like it a lot really. Don’t need to do the sides or tail imho, none of the kits look any good on it.

Moved out about a week and a half ago as well, moved in with a friend in the middle of Albury and I’m really enjoying it. A sense of responsibility combined with freedom basically overcame me after the first few nights. I have everything I need, and the move took me about 4 hours. Even better still that we have a shared love of cooking so the meals have been great. Only problem is the carparking, but I’m getting used to it.

To support the moving out, I got a new job at Charles Sturt University as the AudioVisual tech, and a member of the service desk. I handle videoconferences, teleconferencing, projectors and loan laptops, etc. Then on my other days I help students & staff with their minor IT issues. Im really happy there despite the job being so very busy. One thing I have discovered though is a company called Polycom. Whom I now await to unleash zombies from somewhere using a T Virus. This is the company logo:

That red logo and text comes on the screen every time you start a videoconference accompanied by deep brooding music. If anyone is going to replicate Umbrella Corp its these guys.

I can’t remember if I mentioned it here either but I bought a new laptop a little while ago. Its a Core2 7500, 256Mb 8600MGT, 3gb of DDR and a 320Gb HDD. I got it to take to lans and so far its been awesome. Heres a pic:

Oh yeah, I also got:

New mouse:

New screen: (Samsung 2232BW, 3000:1cd, 2ms, 1680×1650)

I think thats everything for now. Will try to update more often from now on.

Jan 13 2008

Oh yeah, I have a blog.

Category: FTO, News, Opinion, Personal, Play, Workoodles @ 1:45 am

Man, been a while since I’ve updated this sucker. There will be a ton of information, so here we go.

Where to start, well maybe the FTO is a good choice. Its currently in my local mechanics garage after she overheated for a second time whilst after some heavy driving. (I was driving it hard, so all blames lies on me if its something I did) The first time it overheated was on the Saturday before Christmas and needed to be towed. At that point I found out it was the heater hose which had cracked and was leaking all my coolant out the bottom of the car, dripping onto the exhaust and causing an awful smoke to come from underneath the car. The second time I was driving it sedately after a period of thrashing it through traffic and another small hose has cracked near the engine and was spraying onto the intake manifold. Was out of water, filled it up and drove to the garage and thats where it is now as I stated at the beginning of this paragraph. My awesome mechanic is going to replace every single hose in the engine bay, and I agree that this is a good plan as it seems with the heat that its just burning through the old original hoses damn quickly.

It should be fine, like the last time it overheated. I’m just scared that I may have damaged it as when I noticed the temp gauge it was in the 120’s, the far end of the scale. :\

Went to Melbourne for about 5 days just after Christmas, returned just before the new year. Saw the cricket, went shopping etc, and I’m now the proud owner of a new Wireless card and a yuppie Bluetooth headset. I need it for driving. The cricket was boring as hell though, I mean, I remember it being roughly 130 from 390 balls at one point, for the first 3 or 4 hours the run rate was less than one an over. I mean COME ON. HIT SOMETHING. Anything, hit the umpire with the stumps or something, anything. Thank god we’re members of the MCG as I could go back in the cool and get awesome food, and being in the shade was great too. (I still got burnt, gg skin)

As for the work front, I have more on Monday and Tuesday, at CSU again. The work is sporadic but I welcome any. I also have some possible work with another department within CSU so I’m trying to get onto that but so far have had no response from the number I was given. I will make some more inquiries soon. Nothing big I think, just tech support for a few weeks. I’m intrigued as to know what the payrolls look like in that place, I mean everyone seems to be a casual for some reason.

The reason I’m so happy to have work at the moment as well is that the moveout plans are still going ahead, I just need a small job to fill in the gaps in the bills etc. I’ve found some very nice places though actually, quite expensive but I would rather live on noodles and water in a nice place than takeout pizza in a slum. :P

I’ve also changed my favourite album ever in the last few weeks, to Audioslaves self titled album. That is absolutely awesome beyond belief. I’ve never thought before that every track was so so good. In other good music related talk, Daft Punk are ridiculously good live, they remix all their songs and they all come out great on different beats.

I’ve also been reading a new book I got for Christmas, Richard Hammond’s recollection of his Jetcar crash, and he went through a LOT more than he showed on TV. He was almost certainly in recovery during season 9, and even in season 10 he doesn’t look his full self when you see some of the pictures within the book. His mental state was so disturbed that they organised for a team of ex special forces men to get him and his family to Scotland away from the press as their presence could overwhelm him and he could regress. He couldn’t remember what had happened 3 seconds ago most times after the accident and they were afraid he would lose his eye it was that badly damaged. A good read.

I’ve ordered 6 new shirts too, all from Snorgtees, which has some actually hilarious designs for once. No more SplitReason for me after these guys. Hope the arrive soon, and then I have to organise the import tax or whatever it is when you import goods from other countries. I had never heard of it before though so I have no idea.

Seen a few movies lately too, those being Shoot Em Up, I Am Legend, StarDust, the awesomely named Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood, and Death At A Funeral. Overall the best out of this lot is Shoot Em Up by a long margin, with I Am Legend coming in second. Shoot Em Up is just what you want from an action film, that is, pointless hilariously cheesy action with one liners and a gritty chisel jawed hero kicking the crap out of the bad guys with reckless abandon. This movie would go awesome with booze. :P

I Am Legend would be a 10 from me if the ending and CGI had been better. Definitely worth seeing for the city of New York being completely deserted though. Don’t Be A Menace is a hilarious old black parody movie from ‘96 which I first saw with a mate in high school. I grabbed it just to laugh at all the things we laughed at so long ago. Its still funny. Stardust and Death At A Funeral are both okay, but not fantastic. Worth seeing if nothing else is around. StarDust actually bored me somewhat in places, and so did Death At A Funeral.

On the movies coming out soon front, the thing that absolutely dominates my calendar is Cloverfield. HELL YES MONSTER MOVIE. I’ve always loved giant monster movies and this shall be no exception. It has already been confirmed that you see the monster close up at least a couple of times so its not going to be like LOST with mysterious balls of gas and crap like that.Lets go a destroyed New York!

Well, I think thats about everything thats been happening of late, or at least the super short version. I hope to keep this more up to date from now on though.

The 110 club.

Category: FTO, Opinion, Workoodles @ 5:14 am

Yeah I know the Viccies get to drive that speed from day one, but still. I got my full license today and I’m happy to be off the police attracting P plates. I also ordered (finally) a new engine mount for the FTO and I’m now waiting for it to arrive. As soon as it in the car will basically be up to scratch and running sweet.

I saw Ghost In The Shell: Innocence tonight on the big screen and Appleseed last night. Appleseed was dubbed in english and really didn’t work as a translated movi but GITS:I was in Japanese and it was absolutely awesome in hugeres. It was funny however, some people obviously had no idea what the movie was about and left about two thirds the way through. What exactly are you expecting in a movie titled ‘Ghost In The Shell: Innocence’, its not exactly a title that sounds like anybody can roll up and see it.

No work for quite some time as well, Uni went on holidays so no need for me to be there. Annoying really. Sleep schedule is just as broken as ever too which is why I’m typing this at 5am.

Sleep schedule is broken again

Category: FTO, News, Opinion, Play, Study, Workoodles @ 6:05 am

Well, when isn’t it broken. :P

I’m sleeping to 4pm from 6am nearly every day. Starts to get annoying actually but getting back into a normal one always screws me over terribly for about 3 days of nothing but tired eyes and sleepy days. Its a real pain to do but I suppose I’ll have to. While driving around tonight the FTO’s front right low-beam globe blew, or at least thats what I think has happened, I have high beams still but no light when I’m driving around on lows. I shouldn’t have any problems however fixing it, in fact I may just buy a brand new light.

The Job at CSU is actually a lot of fun, and the work is actually interesting. Pity its so damn cold where I am, otherwise I would have no issues with it whatsoever. The Boss has gone overseas for a couple of weeks however so no shifts coming up for a little while but it doesn’t bother me. I still have to look around for a second one however so I can get on with life in general. eg: move out / party / etc.

I’ve wanted to move out for a while now, and after a couple of weeks alone a few months back I realised I liked living alone or at least quite independently. I got an offer of a house in town however theres no garage and a few other factors. I was all for it until I realised about the garage, that is an absolute must for me with the insurance policy for the FTO stipulating a garage specifically as well as me just wanting it to protect the FTO. I’ve really been enjoying driving it lately with some very nice corners and all its features. I was driving around the other day really sitting tightly in the semi-racing seats, was really fun and they make a big difference for simple semi-done factory seats.

On a strange note, Red Rooster is starting to quickly become my favourite fast food outlet, its got great tasting simple food, and the fish of all things is damn nice too which was the biggest surprise of all. Haven’t been doing much lately now that I think about it, but the absolute relief of simply having a job and no study is so worth quitting Uni its ridiculous. If you’re thinking of quitting and just going to work, do it, do it immediately.

Lanning, like I mentioned a while ago hasn’t gotten much better of late, and from the looks of things, is going down the drain altogether. Lucky I’ve started to become more interested in my car than the PC. I still spend a ton of time on it, but now that I have the cash to start work on the car I think I’m going to dedicate a lot more time to it rather than the PC. I’m still waiting for UT3 and maybe ET:QW as there is Tribes code already up and running in the game engine, but still its taking a back seat. If lanning does die I’ll simply disband the lan side completely.

On the subject of food, I’ve really started to like Soup on these cold winter days a hell of a lot especially the chunky soups which have to be a piece of marketing and culinary genius in my opinion. Oh and in a random move that I and others have hated, it appears Coles / Safeway / Supermarkets around here have stopped selling Milka chocolate. What the hell is going on, I demand my damn nice chocolate for cheap! Bah.

I’ve been listening to Digitally Imported a hell of a lot at the moment including when Im going to sleep on the laptop. I’ve even gone back to listening to DJ Reign’s dark trance mixes. Absolutely nothing else comes close to the awesomeness that is electronic music now. Metal now almost infuriates me with its human elements and its thrashing away on the pots and pans. Electronic stuff is unbiased, has no opinions on world events, and it can just be ‘your’ music.

I suppose I should sleep now, if I can. I was in bed at about 1am and its 6am now. Spent 5 hours lying around trying to sleep then making this entry. Oh wel, it looks like I wrote way too much anyway.

Graunch

Category: FTO, News, Opinion, Site Network, Workoodles @ 6:01 pm

The FTO needs a new engine mount, its what’s been causing the terrible crunching sound from the front every time I move it. Should be about $270, as I want to get it reco’d in polyurethane instead of the standard ones as they seem to break or give way non stop, and one of the others is polyurethane as well which would mean one side of the engine is weak compared to the other, so the weak one would have even more strain placed on it.

I saw Pirates 3 on Friday night, wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. It had some very random moments which were very out of place (Elizabeth’s designer dress), and after reading about it on Wiki it really wasn’t finished. After the credits as I’m sure nearly everyone knows is another scene. That scene actually went for much longer, and there is an actual explanation as to why it is there that was filmed, but cut due to time for some reason so the movie doesn’t totally make sense. Stupid doing it that way as it doesn’t finish the movie.

BassByte is doing damn well at the moment from what I can gather from the Network stats too:

Figures in parentheses refer to the 7-day period ending May 26 2007 at 3:06 PM.

Successful requests: 93,830 (25,431)
Average successful requests per day: 3,756 (3,632)
Successful requests for pages: 64,081 (18,429)
Average successful requests for pages per day: 2,565 (2,632)
Failed requests: 575 (8)
Redirected requests: 1,733 (88)
Distinct files requested: 1,035 (245)
Distinct hosts served: 2,311 (79)
Data transferred: 191.93 gigabytes (34.52 gigabytes)
Average data transferred per day: 7.68 gigabytes (4.93 gigabytes)

I mean, over 3k hits isn’t bad for a word of mouth site at the moment. I’m not sure what to do about it either, should I put ads on there or get merchandise happening like shirts or hoodies? Thank god for DreamHost though, they’ve almost given me 3Tb of bandwidth now, only a couple more weeks and I’ll have it.

As for the music itself, I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I think that only electronic music can bring about the state of euphoria that I get every time I listen to extremely good pieces of hardtrance or hardstyle. Rock just does nothing for me that way, I feel like the singer or the beat is flawed and uncontrolled due to simply the nature of the genre. Guitars have never impressed me much as they barely have any control, you control the notes but most of the strumming I see just makes it seem like a mess. To me anyway, I did file this under Opinion as well. :P

This software testing job I got is actually pretty good too, I talk to the Developers and they tell me what to try, I check everything works and send in a report, then off I go. I heard when I was in there last that I put in about twice the amount of data in my report than others or something along those lines, so I’m kinda happy.

Employed.

Category: FTO, News, Personal, Play, Workoodles @ 2:20 am

Got a small job at Uni of all places beta testing software. I don’t really care, its a job and I’ll take it and it should bring in the funds I want to improve/fix the FTO. In other news, I’ve been doing some voice acting for a DJ on bassbyte.com, Mic-E. When the mix comes out on the site with me in it I’ll link it here. He fiddled with the pitch a little bit but aside from that I like how it turned out.

My sleep patterns are back to what seems to be a normal schedule as well. For some reason I woke up every day at 5am or earlier for about 5 days and that made me sleepy enough at about 11am to crash. Then it just got back to normal which is handy having this job now and having to get up at 7:30am. I haven’t been gaming much lately as well, mostly CS:S if anything, otherwise I’m watching shows or crashing on my bed due to my new sleep schedule, which is kicking in right now. :P

Feb 08 2007

Whee!

Category: News, Play, Workoodles @ 2:15 am

I get the FTO re-registered tomorrow, which of course is a good thing. :) Funny though, my local mechanic did the blue slip for me and after doing a couple of small adjustments like giving the underbody a wash took it in to the RTA for its inspection. It had no mechanical problems, but was failed on the first attempt because of… bet you can’t guess… the brake pedal cover. I took a picture of it today after I heard about this hilarious knockback. Click to see a larger pic. Basically down the bottom right there of the rubber you can see its worn through in a tiny hole where it naturally wears as you change your foot from brake to throttle. Even my mechanic was pissed off because it just wasted HIS time more than anything. Great mechanic though, gonna stay with him until he retires.

The team has been going well too, couple wins for the Day Of Defeat: Source boys over the least week. Pity CS:S players are such randoms and don’t seem to have any commitment to a team. Otherwise we’d have a team already up and running.
We’ve been going on a fair few cruises and events too, dinners and the like. Need more though, as I’m tired of gaming in general. With not much on the horizon its not high on my list of priorities any more. More high up is getting on with life, but the best part of gaming is that its something you can completely stop and come back to whenever without much of a loss, so I’m not leaving for good just not caring so much as I did before.

I’ve also started reading a new webcomic, aka I saw it tonight and now its bookmarked. Its basically a woman’s diary in comic form, from a comic artist. Its called Planet Karen and its a simple comic with not much to it. Its just something that you can look at to see how other people simply are coping with the world, and its worth a look if you have the time.

Going to the Cricket tomorrow too, for the first Final at the MCG, finally making use of our memberships to the G. From the forecast its going to be a great day weather wise too, with a predicted top of 26 degrees. Gonna stay overnight this time though, driving back at midnight was okay, but only because I slept on the way up and then could do a marathon drive on the way back from outside Seymour all the way to Wodonga. Should be alright, Melbourne is always better than Albury-Wodonga to hang around in.

I think I need to get myself a job now however simply a part of the ‘master plan’ I have for my life, and also to cope with all the ideas I have for the FTO and leisure in general. Plus I’m not doing anything important at the moment, including Uni. Its not going to help me with anything for at least a year, so if I find myself a nice paying job and a place to live then I think I’d take charge of my life completely.
